'Blue Katie'  - Not available for purchase

As mentioned previously, I have developed my own style over the years, combining realism with abstract design. In the past, I either worked with models or worked on canvas from an image originating in my mind. Painting often requires a great deal of time to complete just one piece. Materials used were and remain costly. Digital photography allows me to engage in many of the things I love, often much more quickly and with fewer costs. Painting with a digital brush is no different to me than painting with any other type of paintbrush. Other benefits to me as well as anyone appreciating or purchasing my work, is that I can actually paint on the photograph or use it later to paint from, onto canvas, whenever time and resources allow. With digital photography you can actually view a shot, delete it and start over if necessary, without having to wait for a roll of film to develop. Many times with film, entire rolls once developed contain nothing acceptable. Despite these advantages, digital photography is not without challenges. Even though it is often less expensive (but not always), digital photography it is NOT without many challenges.  With each new benefit or problem solved, there are new challenges and new problems. What the darkroom is to 35mm film, the computer (imaging software/programs), are to digital photography. Pictures shot with digital cameras can be easily and quickly shared over the internet, through email and printed with acceptable results, but there is a great difference between the image you see above and the photograph you would see once it has been properly 'prepared'  and 'professionally' printed!!!  In the previous image I mentioned that to capture the human face as best as possible, it requires a higher number of mega pixels. The higher number of mega pixels generally means more costly equipment. It also means larger storage on the computer and faster speeds to process, edit, and prepare for print, each picture. Many digital camera manufacturers (including the one that made my camera),  assume most buyers of these complex, high-end and expensive pieces of equipment are professional photographers.  Nomenclature, features, and language used (although not technically applicable to the digital world), are written and designed for those having had a background in 35 mm film. I was not one of these, as I started with digital photography, having had little experience with film cameras. I  love this medium and it continues to evolve and improve. Finally, you decide what you feel and think about the image above. There is one thing I will tell you for certain before closing this out with questions. The image above began as a photograph. Would you like something like this for yourself? Did I instruct the camera to produce the result seen? Did I alter the photograph on the computer with digital paint? Did I actually use real paint over the photograph? Was the photograph out of focus and I turned it into a 'Happy Accident'? The answer to all of these questions is that they are ALL possible with digital photography!
